WAR? TOTAL WAR.

Academic couple George and Martha have invited their new colleagues, Nick and Honey, over for a friendly drink. As the alcohol flows, the night gets darker and so does the conversation.

Edward Albee’s masterwork erupted onto the Broadway stage in 1962, stormed the silver screen in 1966 with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, and has been electrifying audiences ever since. Acclaimed director and actor Margaret Harvey (Black Medea, Heart is a Wasteland, RAN: Remote Area Nurse) reinterrogates this classic exploration of reality, illusion and desire through a dynamic new Australian lens. A brilliant and unexpected cast joins a stellar creative team, including Set and Costume Designer Ailsa Paterson (The 39 Steps, Gaslight) and Tony Award-winning Lighting Designer Nigel Levings (HydraThe King and I). Containing some of the most complex anti-heroes in the theatrical canon, this production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will pull the rug out from under a whole new generation.

This season contains several works about the nature of conflict and relationships in crisis and Albee’s landmark play is the mother lode. Margaret Harvey is one of this country’s greatest and most prolific theatre-makers. As an actress, as a director, she puts a fresh and unique spin on everything she touches. I’m so excited by her vision for this production. Strap yourself in a for thrilling and surprising ride. Mitchell
