Adapted for the stage by Tim McGarry
Additional writing and story by Trent Dalton and Fiona Franzmann
Directed by Sam Strong
The latest smash-hit stage adaptation of Trent Dalton’s best-selling book Love Stories, sold-out Brisbane Festival in 2024, playing to more than 20,000 ecstatic audience members. Now it starts its national tour here in Wollongong for a strictly limited two-week season.
A father prepares himself for the day he lets go of his daughter’s hand. A young man breaks up with his girlfriend so they can both follow their dreams. A grandmother dreams of seeing her grandson’s face. Inspired by a personal moment of profound love and generosity, bestselling author Trent Dalton spent two months in 2021 gathering stories on his sky-blue 1960s Olivetti typewriter, on a prominent street corner in Brisbane’s CBD. Speaking to Australians from all walks of life, he asked them one simple thing: ‘Can you please tell me a love story?’
With acclaimed playwright Tim McGarry and the creative team behind the smash-hit page-to-stage adaptation of Boy Swallows Universe, Dalton’s vignettes are lovingly adapted into a whirlwind production, merging candid performances from a stellar cast and cine-theatre that will make you fall in love all over again. Critics and audiences agree – this is not to be missed!
GoTheatrical captioned performance Saturday, 1 March at 1.30pm to 3.15pm
