Trained by Steve Ostrow, the man who discovered Bette Midler, acclaimed Sydney cabaret artist Catherine Alcorn has been wowing Australian audiences in her hilarious tribute to ‘The People’s Diva’ in The Divine Miss Bette.

The temperature never dips for a moment with this show. Alcorn cleverly keeps you hooked with regular infusions of the down-and-dirty earthiness that is so central to Midler’s appeal. By the standards of today, Midler’s winking brand of vulgarity – the old school naughty jokemistress Sophie Tucker gags, the jubilant camping – seems wholesome.

Then there’s the songs, the nonstop snazz, and of course the bawdy – or as Alcorn puts it “Hitz Glitz and tremendous tits!” Catherine laughs, jokes mingles with the audience and showers them in tart patter. Hit songs include Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Friends, Wind Beneath My Wings, The Rose, Otto Titsling, Chapel of Love and many more.

“That Alcorn is capable of instantly warming up a room and transforming an audience with such crackerjack command is a testament to her consummate skills as an entertainer.”
