“Yet this is my comfort: when your words are done, My woes end likewise with the evening sun.” Eagon, Act 1, Scene 1, The Comedy of Errors

Everybody loves a case of mistaken identy and this time, Shakespeare doubles up on the doubling up with The Comedy of Errors.

Bell Shakespeare’s 2011 Director in Residence, Imara Savage, takes on Shakespeare’s well-loved farce, which is believed to be one of his earliest works.

Chaos abounds in The Comedy of Errors, with not one but TWO sets of identical twins turning the city of Ephesus upside down. Separated at birth, each set of twins carries the same name as his brother. After years spent apart, both sets of twins find themselves in the same city, at the same time. A series of hilarious errors see them wrongfully beaten, accused, arrested and almost driven insane!

This work is seen as increasingly important by students of Shakespearean literature, but much more than that, it is also splendidly entertaining.
