NALAGA’AT DEAF-BLIND THEATRE
NOT BY BREAD ALONE
ISRAEL
CREATED BY Adina Tal and Nalaga’at Deaf-Blind Theatre Ensemble
CONCEIVED AND DIRECTED BY Adina Tal
Australian Exclusive/Premiere
ONE OF THE MOST REMARKABLE, MOST HUMBLING AND MOST PROFOUNDLY AFFECTING THEATRICAL EXPERIENCES YOU WILL EVER HAVE. THE MAIL ON SUNDAY (UK)
Anything is possible. In sell-out shows in Israel, London and New York, audiences rose to their feet to cheer the world’s only professional deaf-blind ensemble’s captivating tour of their inner world. Nalaga’at was born in the hot-bed of Jaffa, Israel, one of the most politically and culturally vibrant places on the planet. This is an uncompromisingly unique company and Not By Bread Alone is a transformative experience.
As bread is kneaded, formed and baked on stage, these extraordinary storytellers convey their memories and dreams. Speaking to each other by way of drum beats, sign language, vibrations and touch, they create visually dexterous scenes soaked in tender defiance. If theatre is about communication, here we have an ensemble so in tune with one another, in a realm so complex and subtle, they are positively virtuosic.
By no means a story of darkness and silence, Not By Bread Alone is a beautiful tale of something shared and understood.
Nalaga’at’s BlackOut Restaurant
Running alongside Not By Bread Alone, Nalaga’at recreates their highly acclaimed and hugely popular BlackOut Restaurant in Perth. Dining in complete darkness and served by blind wait staff, your senses come alive and your food*, wine and conversation take on a special intensity. With sittings for just 40 people at a time, before and after each Nalaga’at performance, don’t miss the opportunity to savour this extraordinary experience.
The BlackOut Restaurant is within 5 minutes walk of the Regal Theatre. You will be notified of the exact location at least one week prior to your chosen performance.
*Menu contains dairy. Vegetarian and gluten free options for intolerances are also available. Regrettably food allergies cannot be accommodated.
