Michelle Law’s fierce and funny debut play, Single Asian Female, was a nationwide smash hit. Now she focuses her razor-sharp eye on the world of beauty pageants in this coming-of-age comedy about what happens when the ghosts of generations past come back to haunt you.
Lily’s grandmother was a beauty queen in Hong Kong. She doesn’t care that times have changed and that Lily lives in a new country and a new century. She sees that Lily’s caught between worlds and wants her to enter the Chinese community beauty pageant, the highly competitive Miss Peony.
She won’t take no for an answer. And to makes matters worse, she’s a ghost.
Starring a dynamic cast led by Michelle Law, Miss Peony is a lavish and loopy exploration of the journey to self-acceptance. This multi-lingual production will feature surtitle translation so that everyone can enjoy the show!
“I entered a beauty pageant once as a teenager and won Best Personality. In a beauty pageant! This is going to be glitzy and glamorous and slightly unhinged.” – Michelle Law
