‘FOOD’
This is an absolutely brilliant production of immersion theatre about family, love and food. Not only are you likely to get the opportunity to share in a titbit or two with the actors as they cook in their on-stage kitchen, but Food delivers one of the most imaginative love scenes seen on stage in a long time.
On a stretch of Australian highway, two sisters run their family takeaway joint. Nancy is worldly and an extrovert. Elma is reserved and deep. Together they are bound by their past is search of a way forward.
Chiko Rolls and reminiscing are on the menu. While they quietly wage war with their past and dream up a brighter future, a young life-loving Turkish traveller enters their kitchen with a charm and sensuality that turns their world around.
Their dreams become reality when they transform their run-down fast-food stop into a restaurant showcasing Elma’s gift for comfort cooking. Audience members become restaurant guests as the sisters serve up Elma’s hearty minestrone soup, sour dough and local wines.
You will find yourself immediately involved in the character’s lives and emotions. Through Kate Champion’s choreographed movement that shows us human emotion beyond the words, you will find yourself intimately involved in the character’s lives and emotions. Filled with scenes that are joyous, intense and sexy, Food is a feast for the senses made all the more affecting by an erotic mix of movement and audience participation that will spice and stir in equal parts.
Food shows us that opening your mind and heart to change can lead to all sorts of wonderful surprises and opportunities. Come share a meal in the intimacy of Riverside!
