Of the countless eternal love triangles written for the stage, few have matched for coolnessHarold Pinter’s gripping depiction of infidelity, as intricate as a spy novel with its cross and double cross.

Emma and Jerry meet for the first time since the end of their affair, but the coals they rake over have long grown cold. Emma reveals she is finally going to leave Robert, the husband and best friend they betrayed. When, later that day, Jerry decides to confess all to Robert, he discovers that Robert found out about the a air years ago and said nothing. Was this silence his betrayal, or his revenge? As memory reels backwards towards the moment the a air started, the lies tangle into a web of deception, and betrayal begets betrayal.

Alison Bell (Constellations, Tribes) stars in Pinter’s most arresting relationship drama in this production from State Theatre Company of South Australia, directed by their Artistic Director Geordie Brookman.
