The soaring force in environmental activism.” Good Weekend

Suing big business to save the planet

It’s terrifying to contemplate. As each year passes, it is the hottest in human history; forests, reefs, whole species are disappearing forever, and governments rarely compel companies to adhere to environmental law. Who will stop the planet from committing ecological suicide?

Enter James Thornton. The founder of the not-for-profit organisation, ClientEarth, empowers lawyers to take companies to court, with the Earth as their clients. This bold new idea has sparked a movement that holds corporations to account with the ultimate goal of saving our planet.

James and his husband, Martin Goodman, have collaborated on a new book that charts the journey of the organisation from its inception. Join them as they share ClientEarth’s hard-fought victories and look at the large-scale changes needed to make a global difference.
